A five-panel canvas is one composition made from several objects. Measuring each panel separately is not enough: the gaps contribute to the total width, and the artwork can feel off-centre even when every individual frame is level.
Work in one measurement unit throughout. Use the actual panels after arrival because listing dimensions, wrapping and mounting hardware may not describe the final visible edge with enough precision for hole placement.
Quick reminder
Leave deliberate breathing room above a headboard, sofa or console.
Calculate the full composition width
Lay the five panels face up on a protected floor in their intended order. Measure each visible width and choose a consistent gap. Add all five widths, then add four gaps—the spaces only occur between neighbouring panels.
- Measure every panel
- Do not assume mirrored outer panels have exactly identical finished widths.
- Choose one gap
- Mock up a narrow and wider option with paper before settling on the value.
- Add five widths
- Record each number separately so a transcription error can be found.
- Add four spaces
- Five panels create four internal gaps, not five.
- Mark the midpoint
- Divide the total composition width by two to locate its visual centre.
Translate the total onto the wall
Mark the desired composition centre with removable tape. Extend half the calculated width to each side and check furniture, switches, doors and corners. Then make paper rectangles for all five panels and tape them up at the chosen gaps.
- Does the group clear furniture? Leave deliberate breathing room above a headboard, sofa or console.
- Is eye level appropriate? Judge the whole arrangement from normal standing and seated viewing positions.
- Are gaps visually equal? Measure between visible edges, not between hidden mounting points.
- Can each fixing support its panel? Match hardware to panel weight, wall material and supplied directions.
Apply the arithmetic to the artwork
Use the Bird Art 5 Piece HD Multi Panel Canvas Wall Art listing to confirm the intended panel order and any stated dimensions, then verify them against the physical set. The calculator plans spacing; it does not replace suitable anchors or safe installation.
Dry-run every mark
Leave the paper template in place for a day if possible. View it in daylight and evening light, then measure once more before making holes. The cheapest spacing correction is the one made while the panels are still paper.
